Questions from international patients

Short answers to the questions we are asked most. For medical details of each procedure, see Dr. Atabay's medical site.

How many days should I stay in Izmir?

It depends on the procedure and on whether dissolvable stitches are used. Most patients plan a stay that covers the examination, surgery, a check-up and stitch removal. Dr. Atabay suggests a length of stay after reviewing your photos.

Is the consultation in English?

Yes. The examination and the consultation with Dr. Atabay are in English, and written instructions are given in English.

Can you arrange transfer and accommodation?

Yes, if you wish. Airport transfer from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and accommodation can be arranged on request.

Is eyelid surgery done under general anaesthesia?

Usually not. Eyelid procedures are mostly performed under local anaesthesia, with sedation if needed, and you go home the same day.

When can I fly home?

Flying is generally possible once the early swelling has settled and your check-up is done. Dr. Atabay confirms the timing for you.

What happens after I go home?

Follow-up continues by message and video call. You send photos at agreed times, and Dr. Atabay reviews your healing.

Can I get an opinion before I travel?

Yes. Send photos and your medical history; an initial assessment helps plan the visit. The final surgical decision is made only after the examination in Izmir.

Is the clinic authorised for international patients?

Authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health for international health tourism.

What should I bring?

Your passport, a list of your medicines (especially blood thinners), any previous eye or eyelid reports, and sunglasses for the days after surgery.

Will I have a scar?

On the upper lid the incision sits in the natural crease and fades over a few months. Lower lid surgery through the inside of the lid leaves no visible scar.

Start with a photo assessment

Send photos of your eyes (straight ahead, eyes closed, looking up) and a short medical history. Dr. Atabay reviews them personally and replies in English. The surgical decision is always made after the examination in Izmir.
